SiyaPhambili

8 Bath Street, Walmer Location, Gqeberha

Background Information

The seed was planted in 2005, when community members from Walmer Location started a support group solely for the blind society. SiyaPhambili Disabled Community Project evolved in response to a broader need within the township.

In 2013, the organization, which operates as a non-profit organization (NPO), recognised that persons with disabilities and their families often perceived the government disability grant as the sole source of assistance and consequently expanded its mandate to address cross-disability issues. Under the name “SiyaPhambili,” the project now operates as a comprehensive community-based organization dedicated to uplifting the self-esteem of disabled individuals, promoting awareness of their rights, and equipping them with sustainable skills for economic independence, notably through training in sewing, food gardening, and an innovative program that recycles plastic waste into marketable products.
